Slippery Rock Township has requested that PennDOT complete a multi-way stop study at two major intersections in the township.
The two intersections the township would like study are Harmony and Branchton Roads and Branchton Road and Route 8. Harmony Road is controlled by the Township, while Route 8 and Branchton are controlled by PennDOT.
Officials argue that adding stop signs on Branchton and changing the amber flash into a red light on Route 8 along with adding stop signs it would take two drivers to make a mistake to cause an accident.
According to a Township official, a meeting was held with PennDOT in the past where PennDOT officials said it would be difficult to change the current roadway signage.
But the board wanted to see what could possibly be done in hopes of easing the amount of accidents at those intersections while still allowing traffic to follow.
Officials also wanted to see the study completed while Slippery Rock students were on campus.
