The South Butler County School Board has committed not to increase their tax millage rate for next year above the index set by the state.
The board made the decision by a unanimous vote Wednesday night, which locks them in to a maximum millage increase of less than 3.3 mils when planning the budget for the 2021-2022 school year.
This index figure is set by the state annually. It is not possible to raise taxes over that rate unless permission is granted by voters for specific exceptional circumstances.
Much like several other local districts, South Butler remains concerned about the cost of paying to educate district students at outside cyber schools. This expense has been roughly double what was budgeted for the current year.
