The Spirit of Christmas Parade is latest event in Butler to be canceled due to the coronavirus.
Event organizers decided not to hold the in-person nighttime parade this year out of an abundance of caution.
However, organizers are in the process of exploring options to still celebrate the holiday season for the Butler community.
“While we were hopeful the current conditions would change and we could celebrate the beginning of the holiday season, our utmost concern is creating a safe environment for members of our community. Clearly, having this parade would not follow the guidelines as laid out by the Center for Disease Control and other public health officials,” Butler Radio Network General Manager Vicki Hinterberger said.
The yearly parade was scheduled for the Saturday after Thanksgiving, and is presented by the Butler Radio Network and Peoples.
“Peoples is a long-time sponsor of the Spirit of Christmas parade in Butler. While we regret the cancellation, we appreciate the station’s concern for the health and safety of citizens,” said Peoples General Counsel and Vice President, Michael Turzai.
