PIRATES:
Johan Oviedo recorded eight strikeouts but was pulled with one out in the fifth after throwing 100 pitches and the Cubs took advantage with a five-run fifth inning to cruise to a 7-2 win Thursday night at Wrigley Field to sweep the series after the Pirates blew leads in all three games.
The Pirates (34-33) maintained a half-game lead in the NL Central over the Milwaukee Brewers (34-34), who have lost six consecutive games, with the Cincinnati Reds (34-35) and Cubs (31-37) closing in. The Pirates visit the Brewers on Friday for a three-game series.
The Pirates got bad news when setup man when Colin Holderman was placed on the 15-day injured list with right wrist inflammation. They recalled right-hander Yerry De Los Santos from Triple-A Indianapolis.

Baseball:
Shaler rallied from five runs down, forced an extra inning and stunned District 5 champion Strath Haven, 9-8, Thursday with a walk-off win in the PIAA Class 5A final at Penn State.
Clarion In the first-ever all-District 9 PIAA title game, beat defending state champion DuBois Central Catholic, 4-1 for the Class 1A crown.
Lacrosse:
The Mars boys have set up a 2022 state finals rematch with District 1 runner-up Marple Newtown, Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at Panzer Stadium
Mars defeated Marple Newtown 9-6 in the final at West Chester East High School last year.
Basketball:
Mars has reached into the college ranks for its next girls basketball coach.
Zack Stitt, who was an assistant coach with Cornell’s women’s team last season, was named new head coach of the Fightin’ Planets’ girls basketball team, the school announced Thursday.
Stitt replaces longtime Mars coach Dana Petruska, who compiled a 518-325 record in 37 seasons before stepping down in April, citing, in part, weariness of excessive complaints from parents.
Stitt, an Oakmont native, began his coaching career as an assistant under his father, Keith Stitt, with the Riverview girls basketball program.
The NHL announced the order for the league’s upcoming entry draft on June 28-29.
Out of the 224 picks over seven rounds, the Pittsburgh Penguins are currently scheduled to have six selections.

U.S. OPEN:
Golfer Rickie Fowler hit a record-equaling opening round of 8-under-62 at the U.S. Open in Los Angeles yesterday.
Then, astonished fans watched Xander Schauffele match Fowler’s achievement 20 minutes later. Neither player has ever won a major championship. The record for lowest round ever shot at a major championship was held by Branden Grace for six years.

JORDAN’S SHOES SELL FOR $1.38 MILLION:
A pair of Air Jordans 12s worn by Michael Jordan has sold for $1.38 million at Goldin Auction. These aren’t any old Air Jordans. He wore them for the famous “Flu Game” during which he scored 38 points for the Chicago Bulls for a 90-88 win over the Utah Jazz during the 1997 NBA Finals despite suffering flu-like symptoms. Jordan revealed later that he actually had food poisoning from pizza. Jordan initially gifted the shoes to a Jazz ballboy who gave him some graham crackers and applesauce to snack on.
MASSIVE CROWD CELEBRATES DENVER NUGGETS: A crowd estimated at 750,000 flooded into downtown Denver for a parade and rally to celebrate the team’s first NBA championship win yesterday. Even Nikola Jokic had a good time.
