State health officials say federal funding will help improve student health and academic achievement.
The department of health announced that the Commonwealth will receive $2 million from the CDC “Whole School, Whole Community, Whole Child” grant program.
The funding will be used over the next five years to create a model in Erie that other schools can adopt focused on areas such as physical activity, nutrition services, health education, social wellness, family engagement, and community involvement.
With assistance from a variety of institutions such as Slippery Rock University, the state will provide training, convene a statewide school health coalition, and support the implementation of the program.
