An event coming up later this week will extend a helping hand to support local veterans.
‘Stand Down Butler County’ will take place Friday at the American Legion Post 778 in Butler starting at 10:45 a.m. with a brief opening ceremony and continuing until noon for Veterans. Veterans and all other community members in need are welcome until 1:30 p.m.
Over 60 vendors and other organizations will have representatives at this free event to share information with veterans and their families about housing and free services, as well as mental and physical care.
Walmart Supercenter in Butler Township is making a donation of $20,000 in merchandise including coats and boots while volunteers from Walmart will help with haircuts and a homemade lunch for attendees.
This is the eighth year Butler has hosted a local event to honor local veterans and their families.
