As the state budget impasse hits 100 days, lawmakers are leaving Harrisburg without a deal.
Democrats in the House passed a spending plan that was just over $50 billion earlier in the day, but Senate Republicans said they didn’t see the bill before it was passed.
Governor Josh Shapiro spoke with reporters last night and blamed Republicans for not coming to a deal.
“Took off, and they went back home, and they failed, just like they’ve been doing — unfortunately — all summer,” Shapiro said. ”
Republican Senator Kim Ward took issue with how House Democrats have handled the process.
“We sent a spending plan to the House back on August 12th and still have not heard about that. [Democrats] passed this bill and we haven’t seen it. We’re not sending it back tonight,” Ward said.
The Senate will now be out of session until October 20th. The House until October 27th.
