State administrators have issued new guidance for school districts as preparations are underway to resume in-person education.
Department of Health Secretary Dr. Rachel Levine and Department of Education Secretary Pedro Rivera emphasized that each school entity will determine if classes resume at school buildings, take place remotely, or involve a combination of both.
Best practice recommendations for schools from the state include masks worn by students and staff at all times except when eating or drinking as well as social distancing throughout the day including six feet of separation between desks.
Schools are also encouraged to serve individually packaged meals in classrooms, reduce the number of students on playgrounds at one time, and limit student interactions by staggering class times or rotating the location of teachers instead of moving students.
Guidance for school sports is unchanged with masks required to be worn by all involved at all times with the exception of athletes during a workout or competition.
