A couple of fun outdoor activities are planned for this weekend at local state parks.
First, Geology Day will take place on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the McConnells Mill Kildoo Picnic Area. Participants ages 10 and older can join park staff for a guided hike to three different waterfalls as well as the historic gristmill. Those planning to attend should wear sturdy hiking boots, dress for the weather, bring a lunch and water. Preregistration is required by visiting the DCNR Calendar of Events website.
Then, a Star Party is planned for Saturday night from 8:30 to 10:30 p.m. at the Lakeview Beach Area on the North Shore of Moraine. Volunteers from the Amateur Astronomers Association of Pittsburgh will bring their privately owned telescopes to help participants learn how to spot a few planets and constellations. Those planning to attend should bring a lawn chair or blanket as well as bug spray. No smoking, flashlights, light-up toys, or cell phones at this free event.
