State Senate Republicans are banding together to stop Governor Tom Wolf’s nominations for a state committee in hopes of blocking his attempt to join the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative.
Senator Joe Pittman spoke late last week saying that the senate would block all nominees to the Public Utility Commission.
“I think it’s most appropriate given the unique circumstances we find ourselves, the route is the PUC, which is the gatekeeper to protect consumers in Pennsylvania,” Pittman said. “And if you look at the impact of the this carbon tax, the consumers will ultimately pay the bill.”
The initiative–also known as “Reggie”– joins other states in an attempt to lessen carbon emissions. However, Pittman says that a carbon emission tax that comes with the initiative would have a negative impact on the state’s economy.
