A State Police Trooper from Butler is recovering after getting hit by a vehicle in neighboring Allegheny County last week.
According to State Police spokesperson Lieutenant Adam Reed in Harrisburg, the incident occurred just after midnight last Thursday morning (8/24) on Route 376 in Robinson Township.
“One of our off-duty troopers stopped to assist at a crash scene, and unfortunately while he was trying to assist at the scene he was hit by a vehicle,” Reed said. “He was transported to a hospital and remains under the care of the hospital.”
The trooper’s family has confirmed his identity as Josh Osche, son of Butler County Commissioner Leslie Osche and Jim Osche. Reed stated that troopers encounter dangerous situations on a regular basis but thankfully he is able to recover from this unfortunate situation.
“Certainly he was trying to do an admirable thing by helping out at the scene, which is something we do as state troopers everyday,” Reed said. “It’s unfortunate that he was struck there, but we’re very thankful he’s on the road to recovery.”
The incident remains under active investigation with crash specialists working on a reconstruction of the scene. Charges have not yet been filed but police do know the person responsible for the crash.
