The Pittsburgh Steelers have made the NFL playoffs after they defeated the Baltimore Ravens 16-13 in overtime Sunday in Baltimore. That win coupled with an Indianapolis loss in Jacksonville, and a Las Vegas Raiders win over the Los Angeles Chargers in overtime late last night, gave the Steelers an opportunity for another game.
Chris Boswell kicked a 36-yard field goal with just under two minutes remaining in the overtime, allowing the Steelers to finish 9-7-1 in the regular season, and in second place in the AFC North.
Linebacker T. J. Watt tied the NFL’s single-season sacks record with one sack in the game. He matches former New York Giants Michael Strahan’s mark of 22-1/2.
Ben Roethlisberger completed his 57th game-winning drive, breaking a tie with Peyton Manning and Drew Brees for second-most in the Super Bowl era. Tom Brady holds the all-time mark with 67.
The Steelers will meet the Kansas City Chiefs next Sunday night at 8pm in the Wild Card round of the playoffs.
Those playoffs begin Saturday with Las Vegas at Cincinnati. Kick-off is 4:30pm.
–New England will travel to Buffalo for the Saturday night game at 8pm.
In the NFC:
–Defending Super Bowl champion Tampa Bay will host Philadelphia at 1pm. Dallas will host San Francisco at 4:30pm.
–The first ever Monday Night game will feature the Los Angeles Rams hosting Arizona at 8pm.
Tennessee and Green Bay earned first-round bye’s.
–Jacksonville continued their winning streak over Indianapolis at home with a 26-11 victory Sunday. It was the seventh consecutive time the Jaguars have beaten the Colts at home.
–Las Vegas defeated the Los Angeles Chargers 35-32 in overtime. If that game would have ended in a tie, the Steelers would have been eliminated from the post-season. The Raiders kicked the game-winning field goal as the overtime period was expiring.
–The San Francisco 49ers earned a playoff spot with a dramatic 27-24 win over the Rams in overtime.
