
A student at a Zelienople private school has been charged with aggravated assault after hitting another student in the head with a ball.
A police report was filed on May 19 for an incident that happened at St. Stephen Academy for a February incident that saw a student have to receive brain surgery after being hit in the head by a basketball.
According to charging documents 18-year-old Tyler McCleery threw a basketball at the head of another student who has a medical condition that required they not be hit in the head.
Weeks after the incident, the victim began having vision failure which is a result of their medical condition. This led to the need of surgery. After the surgery the doctor said the hit to the head caused the need for the surgery.
McCleery has been charged with aggravated assault and harassment. He’s awaiting a preliminary hearing.
