The Pirates signed right-hander Rookie Davis to a minor-league contract Monday. The contract includes in invitation to major league spring training.
Davis, 25, pitched in the major leagues with the Cincinnati Reds in 2017. He allowed 23 earned runs and seven home runs in 24 innings, while also walking 14 batters and allowing 38 hits. He started six of the seven games in which he appeared.
Davis spent most of 2018 recovering from right hip surgery. He returned to pitch in the Arizona Fall League, then elected free agency in the offseason.
The New York Yankees drafted Davis out of Dixon High School in Holly Ridge, N.C., in the 14th round in 2011.
