The Toronto Blue Jays defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers 6-1 in Game 5 of the World Series. The Blue Jays have taken a 3-2 series lead. Game 6 will be played in Toronto Friday night.
Toronto rookie pitcher Trey Yesavage struck out 12 Dodgers over seven innings, while allowing just three hits. He did not walk a batter. Yesavage set the rookie mark for strikeouts in a World Series game, surpassing Don Newcombe’s 11 strikeout performance in 1949. He also became the first rookie to strikeout at least 11 batters in two post-season games. Yesavage struck out 11 against the New York Yankees in Game 2 of the American League Division Series.
