Butler Township residents will no longer see an increase in the cost of trash collection as a result of the closure of the landfill in West Sunbury earlier this year.
In September, a Waste Management contract amendment was approved by Butler Township Commissioners that would have allowed for an increase of $2.33 to the monthly bill of residents beginning next month to help make up for the increase in transportation costs.
Soon after, Vogel Disposal filed a lawsuit against Butler Township and Waste Management questioning the legality of that agreement. The Township and Waste Management agreed that a court battle would eliminate any financial benefit the company would gain from that charge so the Butler Township Commissioners have agreed to a second amendment that revokes the previous one from September.
Butler Township currently has a contract with Waste Management for trash disposal that runs through next year but the process to secure a new deal will begin with going out for bids in February or March.
