The Pennsylvania Treasurer is urging residents to be on the lookout for fraudulent text messages being sent to unemployment recipients.
Stacy Garrity says that scammers are targeting those who receive normal unemployment compensation, pandemic unemployment assistance, and federal pandemic compensation.
The scam tells people their account has been frozen and they need to verify their identity. Garrity says neither the Treasury nor the Department of Labor will send a link in a text message.
If you think you have been sent a possible scam, you are asked to contact police.
