The cost to drive on the Pennsylvania Turnpike will continue to rise.
The PA Turnpike Commission voted to increase tolls by another six percent in January of 2021. The most common toll for a passenger vehicle using E-Z Pass will increase from $1.50 to $1.60 while cash customers will see a 45% increase from $2.50 to $3.90.
Officials blame the rising rates on the over $440 million annual payment that the Turnpike must make to the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) by law. This marks the 13th consecutive year in which turnpike rolls have increased.
The PA Turnpike no longer accepts cash or credit cards after permanently converting to All-Electronic Toll collection earlier this year.
