If you’re heading onto the Pennsylvania Turnpike today without an EZ Pass, you’re in store for a major toll hike.
Starting this past weekend, tolls for drivers without an EZ Pass increased by 45 percent.
However, EZ Pass users are not spared from the increase either, as rates went up six percent.
Turnpike officials say the increases are necessary in order to make their annual payment to PennDOT.
The PA Turnpike sees an estimated 588,000 daily customers. Toll are assessed electronically with E-ZPass or the Toll By Plate program with will take a picture of your license plate and then bill you within 30 days. Drivers have the option to pay the invoices online, by phone or by mail.
As you travel through the toll plaza, you can travel through at posted speed limits and do not have to stop.
