Tyler Reddick led one lap of the Daytona 500 Sunday, but it was the most important as he took his “23-11” race team to victory lane. Reddick drives for the team owned by former NBA great Michael Jordan and Nascar driver Denny Hamlin. Reddick snapped a 38-race losing streak, after going winless last season. His teammate Bubba Wallace led a race-high 40 laps, but finished 10th. Ricky Stenhouse, Jr. was the runner-up, followed by Joey Logano.
A race-record 25 drivers led laps Sunday. The drivers head to Atlanta this weekend.
“23-11” was the team that was part of a lawsuit against Nascar which changed the revenue-sharing model in the United States’ top motorsports series. Ironically, team-winning owners of all three teams who figured into that lawsuit in December saw victory lane in Daytona over the weekend. Bob Jenkins, owner of Front Row Motorsports, and his driver Chandler Smith won the Truck Series opening race Friday night. Richard Childress, who testified on behalf of those teams, went to victory lane Saturday with driver Austin Hill.
