Around 200,000 people are expected to be at the U.S. Open at Oakmont this week.
With that large of a crowd, many are expected to stay and eat in Butler County.
Amy Pack worked for the hotel industry in Cranberry prior to her time with Experience Butler County, which is formerly the Butler County Tourism and Convention Bureau. She said that Butler County historically has always seen a great economic impact from the U.S. Open at Oakmont.
Pack says that many hotels are filled this weekend, but Butler is benefitting from other visitors too.
“Many have seen compression business, which is the business that pushes out from other destinations since the U.S. Open traffic has filled hotels,” Pack said. “So [Butler] kind of gets the best of both worlds.”
Pack says Butler’s highways allow for easy access and connections to other areas, making it an ideal place to stay.
“We have great access to not only Oakmont, but we also have great access to Ohio, Toronto, and other parts of Pennsylvania,” Pack said. “With I-79 and the Turnpike, we’re really at a great crossroads.”
The crowds at the U.S. Open are expected to start growing when play officially begins tomorrow morning.
