A southern Butler County health care provider is providing life-saving care before patients even arrive at medical care facilities.
UPMC Passavant Cranberry recently announced that their advanced response unit at the Cranberry campus is now trained and equipped to carry blood.
This allows expert paramedics and pre-hospital nurses to respond to emergency situations in Butler, Beaver, and Allegheny counties with two units of blood that can be administered before hospital arrival.
Although this unit has been in operation since 2021, a legislative change was made in 2023 to allow for specially trained paramedics to administer blood in the field which could be the difference between life and death.
