An employee with the Butler VA Health Care System was honored recently for being an extraordinary nurse.
Marci Baker was honored by the not-for-profit DAISY Foundation for her commitment to her patients. The veteran that nominated her for the award said “She is the ONLY nurse who has always made me feel like I am the most important person in her world.”
The DAISY Foundation was started in the memory of the nurses that took care of J. Patrick Barnes. A veteran who died at the age of 33 from a not uncommon auto-immune disease, Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP).
The Barnes family were inspired by the care Patrick received and still to this day honor the “super-human effort from nurses in his memory.
