The Department of Veterans Affairs is helping house a number of homeless veterans.
The Butler VA Health Care System permanently housed 131 veterans this fiscal year.
“This is life-changing and in many cases life-saving work,” Sharon Coyle, Executive Director of the Butler VA said in a statement. “We are proud of the progress Butler VA Health Care Systemis making to get Veterans off the streets and are redoubling our efforts to continue this momentum moving forward.”
Nationwide, there were nearly 52,000 homeless veterans housed by the VA. That number is up more than 4,000 veterans compared to last year.
It’s a part of a national initiative called the “Getting Veterans Off The Street” which started this May.
