Vaccines are scheduled to begin today for residents of nursing homes in Pennsylvania.
The first vaccinations will happen for skilled nursing patients first, along with the staff.
“In terms of the rollout for the skilled nursing facilities, that is being done in a collaboration between Operation Warp Speed and two pharmacy companies, Walgreens and CVS, that Operation Warp Speed contracted with,” State Secretary of Health Dr. Rachel Levine said.
“Operation Warp Speed works with those two companies in terms of distributing the vaccines and going to the facilities and immunizing all the patients and all of the staff,” Levine added.
Long-term care facilities have been hit hard by the pandemic. Nearly 70 percent of the state’s COVID related deaths have happened in nursing homes.
