The state’s Department of Veterans Affairs is warning of scam targeting elderly veterans.
Officials say scammers are targeting older veterans eligible to receive pension benefits—it’s a scam known as “pension poaching.”
The fraudsters claim to be a veteran service officer and offer to help you sign up for benefits.
Department officials say anyone contacting you via email, social media, or handwritten correspondence asking for compensation to help apply for benefits is likely a poacher.
They also say to not give out information to an individual unless they are an accredited veteran service officer.
