The National Weather Service late Tuesday afternoon confirmed that a “very brief, weak” tornado touched down Monday evening 5 miles northwest of Portersvillle, in eastern Lawrence County near the Butler County line.
The twister touched down shortly after 9:30 pm, minutes after a tornado warning had been issued.
Large tree limbs were damaged along a path 50 yards wide and two-tenths of a mile long.
Weather service investigators estimated the maximum wind speed at 60 to 65 miles per hour.
They said the tornado lasted only a short period of time, although gusty winds continued as the weather front moved across central Butler County. No further damage was reported.
