A mother from Lawrence County is filing a lawsuit alleging a violation of civil rights by the Lawrence County Children and Youth Services.
The Lindsay Law Firm in Butler has filed a complaint on behalf of a woman identified by the initials “AT” following an incident that occurred in February of 2022.
At that time, A.T.’s boyfriend began taking a new medication that altered his behavior resulting in an altercation and the arrest of the boyfriend. AT’s minor daughter then informed her that the boyfriend had touched her inappropriately. A.T. immediately reported this and had the child evaluated at Children’s Hospital. Lawrence County Children and Youth caseworkers decided that the minor children were not safe with AT and placed them into foster care for over two years in violation of the Pennsylvania Child Protective Services Law.
The lawsuit alleges the organization and several employees violated the civil rights of AT by intentionally inflicting emotional distress and interfering with familial relations as well as making repeated false representations regarding A.T.’s fitness as a parent.
Lawrence County Children and Youth Services could not be reached for comment.
