Police have charged a woman after it was discovered that several farm animals under her care were found to be living in deplorable conditions.
On March 16, police were called to a home in the 300 block of Heist Road for a report of horses sounding like they were dying and living in bad conditions.
When police searched the barn, they found a donkey and four horses that were skinny, with hooves overgrown, and one struggling to stand up. The donkey was also found to be covered in its own feces.
54-year-old Sherry Haser of Butler is the owner of the farm and she told police she did not have time to take care of the animals because of work and being a full-time caretaker for her parents.
She was charged with cruelty to animals and neglect of animals. She is awaiting a preliminary hearing.
