Police have charged a woman after she allegedly mistreated and abused several dogs after being evicted from a Butler Township home.
On September 5th, a man found several dogs in the basement of an abandoned home on the 400 block of Bessemer Avenue.
According to police, the previous resident at the home, 25-year-old Marissa Claypoole, was evicted from the home days before the dogs were found.
When police looked in the home they found several dogs, including a dog who had died, and feces all over the basement. The dogs were in poor health according to police, however Claypoole denied that claim.
According to veterinary clinic medical records, “the dogs were in abhorrent health, but felt the dogs were not cared for well and slightly malnourished.”
Claypoole has been charged with aggravated cruelty to animals, cruelty to animals, and several more charges including not having a license for any of the dogs.
Claypoole is awaiting a preliminary hearing.
