The WPIAL released its new high school basketball alignments Tuesday. The section lineup will change Class 6A Section-1 with Central Catholic moving out and leaving five local teams – Butler, Seneca Valley, North Allegheny, North Hills and Pine-Richland in boys basketball.
In girls Class 6A – Penn-Trafford moves into an eight-team Section-1 with Butler, N.A., North Hills, Norwin, Pine-Richland, Seneca Valley and Shaler.
Latrobe, Fox Chapel and Connellsville drop to Class 5A.
The North Catholic boys jump from Class 3A, where they just won a WPIAL title, to Class 4A and join Section-1 with Knoch, Freeport, Burrell, Deer Lakes, Derry and Keystone Oaks.
The 4-time WPIAL North Catholic girls move from 4A down to 3A.
New Castle moves up to Class 5A from 4A, where they have won three of the past four WPIAL titles.
The alignments are good for the next two seasons.
