Butler County is among 16 western and central Pennsylvania counties which were placed under a drought watch by the Department of Environmental Protection yesterday. Armstrong and Indiana Counties are also on the drought watch list. Affected residents are being asked to voluntarily reduce water use by 5 percent, this means reducing use to about 60 gallons per day for the average household. D.E.P officials say the lack of rain has significantly reduced stream flow and groundwater levels.
