The Butler Transit Authority will receive federal funding to help ensure the future of commuter service to and from Pittsburgh as ridership lags due to the pandemic.
According to Authority Executive Director John Paul, a CARES Act funding grant has been received from the Federal Transportation Administration in the amount of $903,000.
The money will be used to replace revenue lost by decreased ridership and cover ongoing expenses related to the service. The authority will also attempt to regenerate interest in the commuter service once the vaccine for COVID-19 becomes widely available and many workers return to needing the service.
Masks are now federally mandated to be worn on all public transportation including Butler Transit Authority buses. Authority employees will provide riders with masks if necessary and request that everyone comply.
