A local business owner and former member of Butler City Council has decided to run for Mayor.
Longtime Butler resident Fred Reese was a member of Council about eight years ago and also served the last three months of another councilmember’s term in 2019.
“We lived here since we moved up here in in ’70 so I’ve been living in the city of Butler most of that time except going away for college and moving out for a little bit but been here the whole time. Business has been here since ’80, running the business and helping to manage the people there.”
Reese sees finances as one of the main issues facing the city at this point and he is looking for business owners to join in the effort.
“We need more money for the city without a doubt. Try and increase that somehow. I think it’s easier to get some more city people involved, not the people that live here, not just them, just like business owners that have businesses in the city. I think they’d like more say and maybe they could help a little bit more.”
Reese is running as a Republican and currently serves as the Chairman of the City of Butler Redevelopment Authority. He also owns the Monroe Hotel.
