A new bill passed by the state senate would expand the autonomous vehicle industry in Pennsylvania.
The law would allow self-driving cars on the road without a license driver behind the wheel. Senator Carmen Bartolotta says continued support of the industry makes economic sense.
“This industry supports thousands of jobs and has great relationships with education institutions. So much so, that some of the leading companies have decided to make their headquarters in Pennsylvania,” Bartolotta said.
However, one autonomous vehicle company that made its headquarters in Pittsburgh—Argo AI—folded their operations yesterday. They began their operations in 2016 and quickly expanding thanks to investments from Ford and Volkswagen. But, both car companies opted to withdraw their investments from the company this week.
