State officials are celebrating the Allegheny River as it won a recent statewide recognition.
The Department of Conservation and Natural Resources named the Allegheny as the River of the Year.
The 325-mile river begins as a stream in Potter County before ending at the confluence in Pittsburgh where it pours into the Ohio River.
Three Rivers Waterkeeper nominate the river for the award and received a $10,000 grant to help fund River of the Year activities.
