The Pittsburgh Pirates defeated Colorado 9-5 Sunday, avoiding a three-game series sweep by the Rockies. Three Pirate relievers pitched four scoreless innings after starter Mitch Keller allowed five runs on seven hits over the first five innings. Keller allowed three home runs.
First baseman Spencer Horwitz hit two home runs and drove in six. Second baseman Nick Gonzales had four hits in the game.
The Pirates blew big leads in each of the first two games of the series. They blew two nine-run leads Friday night when they lost 17-16. The Bucs also blew a four-run lead to lose 8-5 Saturday.
