The Pittsburgh Pirates took down the Cincinnati Reds 4-2 last night. The Pirates got all their offense in the 2nd inning, aided in part by a two-run Oneil Cruz home run.
Johan Oviedo went 4.2 innings, allowing two runs. The win went to rookie Hunter Barco, who made his Major League debut last night, throwing a scoreless sixth inning.
With the loss, the Reds now fall one game back to the New York Mets who came from behind to defeat the Chicago Cubs last night. Both the Reds and Diamondbacks are one game out of the final wild card spot.
The Pirates will face the Reds again tonight, with Paul Skenes getting the start. He’ll square off against the ace of the Reds, Hunter Green. First pitch at 6:40 p.m. You can hear the game on WISR.
AMERICAN LEAGUE PLAYOFFS
In the American League Central, the Cleveland Guardians defeated the Detroit Tigers, now giving them sole possession of first place in the division. The Tigers now hold the final wild card spot, with the Houston Astros one game behind.
ROBO-UMPS
Major League Baseball announced the league will officially adopt the “ABS System” next season. That will allow teams to challenge a pitch, if they believe it was called incorrectly. The challenges must come from players on the field, and teams will be limited to two per game.
