The Pittsburgh Pirates fell 6-3 to the Boston Red Sox Sunday. Prior to the game, the Pirates announced they had sent top prospect Konnor Griffin to their minor league camp. He will begin his season at Triple-A Indianapolis. Pirates manager Don Kelly announced yesterday that the team will start with Jared Triolo at shortstop and Nick Gonzales at third base to begin the season. Kelly also announced Carmen Mlodzinski will begin the season as the Pirates fifth starting pitcher behind Paul Skenes, Mitch Keller, Bubba Chandler and Braxton Ashcraft.
Pirates opening day starting pitcher Paul Skenes completed his spring with four shutout innings Saturday in the Bucs 8-3 win over Toronto. Skenes allowed just one hit. He walked three and struck out five. Oneil Cruz and Spencer Horwitz each hit home runs in the game. Cruz stole his fifth base of the spring.
The Pirates complete their exhibition schedule today when they host Atlanta in Bradenton at 1:05pm. Hear the game on WISR beginning at 1pm.
The Bucs head to New York to open their season Thursday afternoon against the Mets.
