Mars graduate JJ Wetherholt, the seventh pick in the 2024 MLB Draft out of West Virginia, has been named to the St. Louis Cardinals opening day roster. After he was drafted, Wetherholt signed a more than $6 million professional contract with St. Louis. He made his way through Double-A and Triple-A last season and was named the Cardinals Minor League Player of the Year for 2025.
Wetherholt was taken two picks prior to the Pirates selecting high school player Konnor Griffin with the ninth overall selection in 2024.
