The Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the Cincinnati Reds 8-3 last night, thanks to four home runs. Oneil Cruz hit two round-trippers, his first of the season. Bryan Reynolds and Ryan O’Hearn also hit home runs.
Cruz and O’Hearn drove in three runs each.
Pirates starting pitcher Bubba Chandler and two other relievers held the Reds to no-hits into the seventh inning.
Chandler did not allow a hit over his 4-1/3rd innings. He struck out six, but also walked six. He allowed an unearned run when left-fielder Bryan Reynolds and center-fielder Oneil Cruz allowed a flyball to drop in the third inning. Reynolds was charged with an error.
Pirates manager Don Kelly was ejected from the game in the eighth inning for arguing with the home plate umpire
The Bucs and Reds complete their series in Cincinnati this afternoon at 12:40pm. WISR pre-game is 12:15pm. Paul Skenes will start for the Pirates. Andrew Abbott starts for the Reds.
The Pirates are off Thursday. Their home opener is Friday afternoon at PNC Park.
