The Pittsburgh Penguins lost 7-5 to the St. Louis Blues last night in their final regular-season game. The Pens sat a number of starting veteran players again for the game. After the Pens had built a 4-1 lead into the second period, the Blues scored five straight goals to take a lead they didn’t relinquish. St. Louis chased starting goaltender Stuart Skinner after he allowed four goals on 21 shots. Arturs Silovs allowed two goals on nine shots. Rookie Avery Hayes scored twice to end his first regular season with five goals.
The Penguins signed prospect Jake Livanavage from the University of North Dakota after their season ended and he made his NHL debut last night. Forward Rafael Harvey-Pinard also made his NHL debut in the game. The Penguins had six rookies in the lineup.
The Penguins will meet Philadelphia in the First Round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs this weekend.
The Flyers won their final three games to tie the Penguins with 98 points, but the Pens won the tie-breaker for second place in the Metropolitan Division to gain home-ice advantage in the opening round of the playoffs.
