The state house has passed a bill that would require the state board of education to create academic standards for social media and mobile devices.
The bill would require the development of instruction materials on the effects of social media and mobile devices on student’s mental health, academic growth, safe and responsible use standards, personal security on mobile devices, and how to identify suspicious online behavior.
The bill passed 115 to 85 along party lines with 13 Republicans joining Democrats to advance the bill.
The bill will now head to the Senate Education Committee before a formal vote on the senate floor.
