A Butler woman has been charged with voluntary manslaughter in the city of Butler two years after an incident that killed a man.
In June 2024, police were called to the 300 block of West Wayne Street for a reported overdose of 27-year-old Justin Woods of Butler, where he was pronounced dead.
During the investigation, police say 30-year-old Katelyn Messer sold the drugs that killed Woods. She initially denied the accusations, but evidence showed text messages between the two and she admitted the crime to police.
Along with the manslaughter charge, Messer has been charged with two counts of Manufacture delivery or possession with intent to deliver, and two counts of criminal use of a communication facility.
Messer was placed in the Butler County Prison on nonmonetary bail and a preliminary hearing was scheduled for June 8.
