A group of bills that would create greater restrictions and more oversight to obtain a CDL license in Pennsylvania has been signed into law.
These new regulations come after from crashes involving non-legal residents driving tractor trailers.
But, these new regulations target unauthorized CDL schools, also known as “CDL mills.” For profit schools that defy rules and undermine legitimate training programs. “CDL mills” can now face fines up to $25,000.
This bill passed with bipartisan support.
Two additional bills are also making their way through Harrisburg but have need reached the governors desk.
One bill will require drivers to be proficienct in english but does not prevent PennDOT from offering the CDL manual in different languages.
The other will establish new penalties for out of service violations issued to unsafe drivers and operating a truck without English comprehension.
