A new state law will allow counties to better address how to handle blighted or abandoned properties.
Earlier this month, Governor Josh Shapiro signed into law House Bill 858 that will give the chief county assessor the ability to establish and maintain a list of properties.
Contact information for each property would be added and when a property is cited for violation, contact information will be shared with code enforcement within a municipality.
Homeowners would also voluntary provide contact information to the county.
The bill passed in the house and senate with bipartisan support.
