The Mars Area School District is continuing with renovations and expansion work at the Elementary School.
Representatives of Thomas and Williamson recently presented updates on the $21.4 million project which is a bit behind schedule.
Work that took place last month at the Mars Area Elementary school includes construction of all retaining walls and the elevator shaft for the school’s new three-story classroom wing, as well as waterproofing foundations and installation of foundation drainage piping.
Crews have also spent time relocating excess soil for the realignment of the Doc’s Way access road and a future parking area along with milling and grading the school’s main parking lot, driveway, and the Little Dipper access road which has also been widened for more traffic.
Moving forward, site work will continue with finishing all foundations and structural walls as well as the installation of underground utilities and waterproofing in the school’s new kitchen/cafeteria addition. The next step is installation of stone subbase under the addition followed by pouring the concrete slab base.
