As artificial intelligence becomes more woven into everyday life state lawmakers have proposed legislation to regulate its use in healthcare.
In an effort to protect patients, state lawmakers have proposed bipartisan legislation that would still allow insurers, hospitals, and clinicians t0 use AI but not rely on it.
If signed into law the bill aims to do three things. First, require patients be informed if AI is being used and how. The second, ensure decisions and assessments are made by a human. Finally, it requires insurers would have to provide evidence the system doesn’t have bias or discriminates prohibited by state law.
The house proposed bill passed through the house with bipartisan support and now sits in the Senate Institutional Sustainability and Innovation Committee.
