The Atlantic Coast Conference announced Tuesday that it will scrap its current model of two seven-team divisions in football in favor of a single-division format beginning in 2023. Under the new rules, each team will face three opponents annually for the next four seasons. For Pitt, those teams will be former Big East rivals Syracuse, Virginia Tech and Boston College. They Panthers other five conference opponents will rotate among the league’s remaining 10 teams.
The move is being made to give teams more variety of opponents over the four seasons. The top two winning percentages at the end of the regular season will play for the conference title.
