Pennsylvania’s top law enforcement official is suing a couple of local men over allegations of a deceptive rent-to-own scheme.
Attorney General Dave Sunday recently announced the filing against Charles Spencer of Cranberry Township and Sean Walters of Wexford.
Sunday alleges the defendants and their businesses targeted homeowners who needed to quickly sell their homes, and “first-time” buyers who did not see red flags because they had never bought a home before. The men allegedly took over mortgage payments then defaulted on the mortgages and sold the properties to new buyers who did not know the men did not actually own the properties.
The attorney general is seeking restitution for harmed consumers as well as penalties and related costs. Anyone who believes they may have been impacted by this scheme is asked to contact the Office of the Attorney General’s Bureau of Consumer Protection.
